Portimao
Alto Golf
is situated near the picturesque village of Alvor. Extraordinary soft white sandy beaches, clear blue sea and fascinating cliffs are part of its charm.
This was the last course designed by the legendary Sir Henry Cotton, the triple winner of the British Open. It embodies his belief that a golf course should test players with low handicaps, but also provides a pleasant game for golfers of only average level. After his death, the project continued with Peter Dobereiner, a well-known golf journalist.
The course, with the beautiful Monchique mountains as its back-drop, runs through two valleys and offers winding fairways and gently undulating greens.

Vale da Pinta
Designed by the North American Ronald Fream, whose style involves the preservation of nature in his projects, the twin course of Quinta do Gramacho, but with a full 18 holes. It is set in the Pestana Golf Resort.
The course is set in a true Algarve landscape almond, olive and carob trees remaining thru out the course on top of small rolling valleys and hills, Running thru an old olive grove, where some of the trees are reputed to be more than 900 years old.
Fream has created wide, deep greens protected by a total of 59 similarly sized bunkers.
The challenges posed by the course are adaptable to differing levels of skill. This is achieved by the presence of five sets of tees for each of its holes. So those players with handicaps ranging from scratch to 12 can play off the black marks placed further back. White marks are for those handicapped between 13 and 20. For ladies there are red marks (from scratch to 28 handicap) and blue marks for lady beginners.
As of September 1996 the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, which is Europe's fifth largest, established a presence at this development.

Quinta do Gramacho
was designed by Ronald Fream and Nick Price and is adjacent to the Vale da Pinta course. It is part of the Pestana Golf Resort situated in the heart of Algarve.
The Gramacho Course is unique with 27 greens being the only one of its type of design on the continent of Europe, it is one of only a few courses in the world with 18 sets of tees and 27 greens but only 18 fairways.
As with the Pinta Course, the preparation and condition is at tournament standard year round. Holes 1 through 4 and 14 through 18 have two greens which may change your game plan depending on which greens are in play The terrain is liberally dotted with carob, fig, palm, almond and olive trees, some of which are more than 600 years old.
The use of existing features of the land, outcrops of rock, dry stone walls, fig, almond, carob and olive trees, have been augmented by well positioned bunkers and lakes. These hazards, combined with the shaping of the fairways and greens, have produced a wonderful array of challenging but fair golf holes. From the first tee shot to then pitch to the final green, the player must not only strike the ball and putt well, but also utilize the best strategy, to produce a good score. Experienced golfers will certainly acknowledge that they played a very fine golf course with a testing par of 71 and more than sufficient length at 6107 meters.
While designing and constructing the golf course Pinta and Gramacho, Ron Fream and Nick Price, did the impossible, they combined the hilly picturesque course with the artistic fairways and used the ancient olive trees,

Situated in the heart of the Algarve, in the Meridien Penina Golf & Resort, the championship course is considered the most brilliant project of Sir Henry Cotton, triple champion of the British Open who became a golf architect.
This was also the first golf course to be built in the Algarve, back in 1966. The experienced Cotton was one of the firsts to recognize the Algarve's huge potential as a golfing destination. The quality and the success of his work encouraged the subsequent construction of many other courses that now exist in the region.
The hotel and golf club are unique when it comes to outstanding views, a calm and tranquil setting, and shows nature at its best. The golf club is a member of the Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary System.
The Penina Championship Course has several bunkers, hundreds of thousands of trees, plenty of water with wide greens and a vast tee area, making this a real championship course.
The sequence of the holes is very original, for the last nine holes both begin and end with two Par 5. Therefore, the first half of the course is Par 35, while Par for the other nine holes is 38. A new lake has been created to protect hole 5's green and more water has been added around green 13, transforming it into a small island. These are some of the details included in the transformation of the original design, as well as the deepening of the bunkers and the rebuilding of tees according to modern techniques. 40 thousand tons of sand was used to build up the new fairways and 200 kilometers of electric wires were needed to install the new computerized irrigation system.
Two nine hole courses (now re-named the Resort Course and Academy Course) are the ideal complement to the Championship course.

Vale do milho
is a friendly short course with nine holes, all of them Par 3, designed by David Thomas.
famous for the "Brabazon Course " at The Belfry, England.
Many golfers will be surprised that a course just 970 meters long could be so complete and challenging, excellent course for beginners to practice and regular players to improve on their short game. In order to play this course to Par (27) you will be faced with a series of obstacles from the first right through to the final hole.
In addition, this course is visually a very attractive course, with waterfalls and wonderful views over the sea.
So, if you want to enjoy yourself, practice your short iron shots and at the same time take in the beautiful and relaxing landscape, then Vale de Milho will not disappoint you.

Margado de reguendo
is a new course to open in the Algarve. Laying to the north of Portimão it is laid out in a large 980 hectare estate through undulating small valleys.
The main characteristic is its large greens which place demand on good putting skills. Also, the accuracy of the player's shot will be questioned by deep aggressive bunkers. A further 18 hole course is already in the planning stage.
The Clubhouse, with its sober architecture and spacious social areas, is a perfect location and has a wonderful view over Morgado Golf Course, particularly from the south terrace which looks out over the entire driving range and twelve of the eighteen holes.
